Project Overview
Challenge: Tight constraints, sensitive area, need to install erosion control measures in specific time frame
Solution: Careful planning, sensitivity to eco-system, repetitive erosion control measures during construction
At Team Elmer’s, we pride ourselves on our ability to overcome any obstacle we encounter. When we were tasked with getting 1,100 tons of 8-inch stone down a 70-foot vertical slope, we had to adapt to get the job done. Faced with the seemingly simple errand of digging up two feet of mud and soil and arranging fabric and rock from the top of the slope to the river’s edge, the topography quickly became treacherous. A steep 2:1 incline created an environment where caution, experience and careful planning were of the utmost importance.

Enter the trademark Elmer’s innovation. We built a gravel road down to the river and built a bench so that our technicians had enough room to operate an excavator and drive a haul truck. Elmer’s also installed a turbidity curtain in the river to contain sediment during construction. By paying close attention to erosion tendencies and to the surrounding environment, Team Elmer’s was able to complete the job without a hitch – and ahead of schedule.
At the completion of the project, the riverside was returned to natural habitat and erosion-controlling stone. Furthermore, we replaced a concrete headwall that had been buried for years. As is our custom, we turned a perceived obstacle around and used it as a tool to complete the job faster and more effectively. Another success story!
