Challenge: Ensure that the dome was assembled safely

Solution: Pre-assembly of the dome

Team Elmer's crane and rigging division placed the dome assembly and bell tower on the Gabriel Orthodox Church. The estimated weight of the dome assembly was 48,000 pounds. The bell tower weighed 36,000 pounds. Crews spent a total of 12 hours planning and rigging to lift the fragile dome and the bell tower. The Gabriel Othodox Church is located near the Grand Traverse Resort in Willimaburg, MI. Materials used to rig the dome were 4-12 ton shackles, 4-17 ton shackles, 1-50 ton shackle, 4 D ring shackles
