Keeping debris out of the AuSable River! The North Down River Rd bridge in Grayling, MI carries vehicles over the East Branch of the AuSable River. Earlier this year the project began to remove and replace that bridge with a new larger structure. Because the bridge was out for most of the project, the job site was essentially divided in two. This meant shuttling equipment around the 8 mile detour, which included a portion of the interstate, in order to get to the other side of the river. The stormwater control system was also slated to be replaced, which included installing two large storm water treatment structures. Weighing nearly 60,000 lbs, the structures are significantly larger than a typical manhole structure that would be placed along storm sewer pipe. They are intended to serve as a settling chamber to remove any debris before it reaches the river. Get A Load Of This! - Episode 9: Keeping the AuSable Clean
