Building Tomorrow Workshop!

NMC's Aero Park campus hosted the 2016 Building Tomorrow event, where area high school students were given the opportunity to get hands-on experience in a variety of trades, such as carpentry, welding, electrical, HVAC, concrete, and site work.

Get A Load Of This! - Episode 6: Building Tomorrow

The students were able to talk first-hand with area professionals and gain insight into each particular field. Not only that, but they were also able to get their hands on some of the different pieces of equipment, tools, and technology that are used in the workplace.

The event provided students the opportunity to connect what they're learning in the classroom to real world scenarios, as well as discover workplace opportunites and related certificate or degreed programs that NMC offers.

Team Elmer's exhibit featured four mini excavators that students were randomly selected to operate, under the supervision of our experienced operators.

The event was a great success and provided a fun learning experience for the students.

Striving to Produce Quality

We at Team Elmer's produce many different products, and whether it's asphalt for a residential driveway, or concrete for a street curb, we pride ourselves in offering a consistant and quality product each and every time.

In order to accomplish that, we have a team of quality control experts that test the products at several different stages of its lifecycle.

Aggregates will get passed through a series of sieves to ensure they are the proper size. Once those aggregates have been approved they could end up in a gravel driveway, serve as a base to a reconstructed highway, or be used to produce concrete or asphalt mix, where it will once again undergo more testing.

Team Elmer's asphalt testing crew collect loose mix samples directly off of the trucks, as well as compacted samples from the field. The samples get run through a battery of tests to ensure they are in the proper specification for the project.

Our concrete QC team will also pull samples from concrete pours to run a number of tests, including air content, temperature, compression strength, and slump (the consistancy of the concrete).  It is a daily team effort to ensure each product's quality.
