Veteran's Memorial to Debut at Patriot Game on 9/11!

Friday, September 11, 2015 will mark the 4th annual Traverse City Patriot Game between Traverse City's Central and West High School football teams at Thirlby Field.

Aside from the football game, the event will feature a ceremony to honor both active duty military and veteran's.

Team Elmer's has donated the concrete for the monument's base, as well as rigging services to set the memorial in place at Thirlby Field.

Gates open at 5:30pm and the ceremony begins at 6pm, followed by a US Coast Gaurd flyover at 7pm. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15pm.

Event proceeds will benefit Dogs in Honor, providing service dogs for combat veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Active military, veterans, and first responders are invited to attend at no cost.

Cleaning Up After the Storm

August 2, 2015 brought severe weather to Northern Michigan. Straight-line winds reaching nearly 100 mph tore through Glen Arbor and Skeegamog Point wreaking havoc on the area. The severe storm tore down trees, smashing into vehicles, homes, and power lines, leaving thousands without power all throughout the Northern Michigan area.

A local state of emergency was declared as first responders, utility repairmen, contractors, and volunteers began the challenge of cleaning up the damage, restoring power, rescuing homes from fallen trees, and disposing of the unwanted fallen debris. Watch the video below for a closer look!

Asphalt Maintenance Options

We are nearing the end of the summer season and chances are you experienced your fair share of road construction during the past few months. Chip seals, ultra thin overlays, mill and fills, and even total reconstructions. But have you ever wondered how the road commission decides which maintenance plan to implement?

Episode 6 of the Team Elmer's Update takes you in for a close up of the Grand Traverse County Road Commission's (GTCRC) decision-making process. Experience the balancing act that the GTCRC goes through when implementing their Asset Management Plan, juggling both the road maintenance needs with the funding currently available.

Here we go again! US-31 Phase II starts today!

We are heading back to US-31 to finish the job! Begining Tuesday, September 8th, Team Elmer's will begin work on Phase II, which includes double the distance compared to Phase I, approximately 3.2 miles of resurfacing US-31 from where we left off at Holiday Rd heading north to Brackett Rd.

Phase II is a mill and fill project, which involves grinding off the top layer of the existing asphalt and repaving a brand new surface. The project will also include some curb and gutter work, upgrading sidewalk ramps to ADA standards, and gaurdrail installation.

The reconstruction portion of this project will require lane closures and numerous traffic shifts, with one lane open in each direction throughout construction. Access to driveways and businesses will be maintained at all times. Delays are expected, with longer delays anticipated during peak traffic periods. Delays averaged 5 to 35 minutes or more during Phase I, depending on traffic volume, so please plan ahead.

The project is scheduled to be completed by October 31st, however Team Elmer's is aiming to be done before the deadline, weather permitting. As always, we will do our best to complete the work as soon as possible and with as little disruption to the motoring public as possible. We promise, it will be worth it.

Remember to plan ahead, wave hello at Jimi and Josh, and we thank you for your patience!
