Challenge: Rainfall
Solution: Allow time for the dredged material to dry
In 2016, Littlefield Township acquired Admiral’s Point (Hay Lake Marina) waterfront that provides access to the Crooked River and Hay Lake waterway. Redevelopment on the former private marina with an approximate 30-slip public marina was funded by MDNR and work was conducted by Team Elmer’s in the summer of 2019.

Hay Lake Marina improvement and site restoration included removing and replacing existing piers, replacing approximately 750 lineal feet of existing seawalls, and a new poured in place boat launch ramp with a 5’X40’ skid pier. A floating turbidity barrier was in place for the entire project construction. The north boardwalk was removed and the west boardwalk was leveled off. Additional sheet piling and decking at the north boardwalk was needed.
Dredging of the marina basin and dewatering were major elements of the site work. Given the soil conditions and risk of damage to the underground utilities, the project required dredging and haul off to be completed prior to the installation of underground work. Team Elmer’s dredged material from two locations to be able to place two floating timber boardwalks and observation decks. Once the dredge operations were complete, Team Elmer’s proceeded with construction of the underground utilities followed by the roadway and parking areas. Following the completion of the parking lot, Team Elmer’s began the undercut and sand backfill of the sidewalks.
Littlefield Township community members are now able to enjoy the reconstructions of the now public park/marina for years to come.
