Crowd Pleaser Award: Cherry-T Ball Drop With more than 7,000 revelers looking on, our 40-ton all-terrain crane and the bright red cherry stood proudly over downtown Traverse City. As the clock ticked down, our crew lowered the ball 100 feet...3..2..1...Happy New Year! And the crowd went wild! Charitable event goers donated more than 4,400 pounds of food for the Goodwill Inn. Now that's something to celebrate. Click here for more photos of the big night.
Shortest Highway Award: Elberta's M-168 Team Elmer’s recently completed a complex and meticulously timed seven-stage reconstruction of what was then Michigan's shortest State Highway. The Village of Elberta’s M-168, which runs along the Betsie Lakefront, across the water from downtown Frankfort, clocks in at a whopping .93-miles long.
Scuba Steve Award: Spitznagel Dock Team Elmer's employees Mark Demoulpied, Craig Cook and Mike Guernsey got in touch with their inner fish and spent 50 hours in Lake Michigan to complete the Spitznagel project in Northport. The crew installed new wood pilings and an H pile dock.
Greenie Award: Earth Shelter Project Michigan An underground earth dome shelter in Mt Pleasant used more than 860,000 pounds of Team Elmer’s concrete to complete the shelter’s facade. Known as “Earth Shelter Project Michigan,” the project is the largest of its kind in the nation at nearly 13,000 square feet and aims to be completely self-sustaining.
Best Dressed Award: Pinky the Pink Concrete Mixer Our own glamour girl, Pinky, painted the town PINK throughout the year! With your help, we raised more than $38,000 and attended dozens of events to support cancer services throughout Northern Michigan.
Most Uplifting Award: Butch's Tackle and Marine When completed, 28,000 yards of contaminated dirt will be removed from Butch's Tackle and Marina in Clam River as part of a complete soil remediation project. For a time, the shop was supported on micro pilings while it "teetered" on the edge of a 32-foot deep hole. What a sight!
